It is paramount to know, and respect, your fabric’s cleaning code. A fabric’s cleaning code should be greatly considered in regards to your lifestyle when choosing a cover for your upholstery.
Abrasion should also be a consideration. A fabric’s abrasion value is measure of its durability and resistance to wear and tear. It is determined by subjecting the fabric to a series of tests that simulate the wear and tear it would experience in everyday use. The results from these tests can be used as a guide for the recommended use of fabric. For example, fabrics with an abrasion rating of 15,000-30,000 cycles are considered good for residential home use. Fabrics with an abrasion rating of 40,000+ cycles and above are considered appropriate for commercial use, such as in a hotel where furniture is subject to constant wear and tear.
